I just want to send a donation.

Well, God bless ya!  Please do.  You can Paypal to jim@sturges.org, or send it a check to: Jim and Mary Sturges, 317 Peele Ct.  Swansea, SC 29160, USA.  Make your check payable to Jim or Mary Sturges.

We promise to use all funds for www.MOMYS.com, and not just funnel them into the Sturges Family Caribbean Island Fund (motto: "Providing airfare and fruity umbrella drinks for ten of your favorite South Carolinians"). If you'd like to contribute to THAT fund, just write us.

Will my new address work with my e-mail program?

Any POP3-compliant e-mail program or service will work.  Be sure to give us the password you'd like.

Almost all email programs are POP3-complaint. Some of the many POP3 compliant e-mail programs are: MS Outlook and Outlook Express, Eudora, and Netscape Mail.  Also Linux-based programs will almost certainly support POP3.

The last I saw, Juno Mail (as opposed to JunoWeb) and AOL did not have provisions for connecting to POP3 servers.  See the bulletin boards under "help" for recommendations on free mail programs you can get that will work, as long as you have a connection to the internet.

Webmail, forward to my existing email address, or use my own mail program to check my MOMYS mailbox?

If you choose to forward, any mail sent to you@momys.com is simply re-routed to your other e-mail account.  When you wish to send an e-mail it will come from your original account, not the momys.com one.

If you choose webmail, you will be using the momys.com site to check your mail.  This is especially useful for those whose ISP's are blocking the MOMYS digest, as you read the mail right from your browser.  It is also good for those who travle a lot or don't use the same computer every time they browse.

If you choose to use your own program (Outlook Express, for example), you will set up an account on your program using the pop3 username, password, and server that we will e-mail you.  Under Outlook Express, you can have several different mail accounts going to the same inbox (Mary and I have 3 different accounts, for instance).  When you send an e-mail under Outlook Express, you will have the option to send it from your current e-mail address, or from your momys.com address

If you are not sure, choose the one you like and we will switch you whenever you like.

Can I receive attachments?

Yes.  I don't know (right now) if there is a size limit, but I get large attachments (several megabytes) regularly.  So, you can send and receive lots of pictures, etc.

Is there virus or spam protection built in?

No.  Always be careful clicking on attachments -- even if you don't know who the mail is from.  Be especially wary of files whose endings are .scr, .exe, or .com.  These are quite often viruses.  I recommend you read the bulletin board under "help" for information on spam and virus tools.  I've given recommendations and have asked the MOMYS to provide their own recommendations as well. We URGE you to purchase and use a spam filter!!! Protect your children's innocence and your own as well.

I often have trouble getting my digests because of my service provider.  Will this help?

Yes, if you use our webmail or POP3 option.  Otherwise, the mail forwarding to your existing e-mail address will be subject to the various pitfalls of poor spam filtering  (entire domains being blacklisted, for example).
