What is MOMYS?

Welcome to MOMYS! MOMYS is an acronym for Mothers Of Many Young Siblings. If you have, have had, or hope to have, four or more children under eight years old, this is the place for you. The purpose of MOMYS is to provide support and encouragement for women who have many small children, to the glory of God, and membership is restricted to those who fit this description. We do not allow men or those who are just curious. If you are simply curious about large families, may we suggest quiverfull.com? We have articles and recipes geared toward large families, weblinks and material reviews, a message board, archives of the MOMYS email digest, free downloadable charts and lists, and much more for our members to enjoy and contribute.

If you’re joining us for the first time

If you’re joining us for the first time, you will need to register a new account. After registering, you will be sent an automatically generated message to which you must respond before being accepted as a member. Once you have been sent a message notifying you of your acceptance as a MOMYS.com member, you may also choose to join the message board. This requires a second registration process which is explained in our Introductions board. Please click here and read the thread called "Instructions for Introductions".

MOMYS Cookbooks

The MOMYS cookbook is available at the MOMYS Market: We here at MOMYS know that our site registration process is like no other. You're not sure if we're going to ask you for your mother's maiden name and your blood type. To give you a bit of insight, I'd like to point out what's been going on over at an excellent homeschool curriculum publisher.

Sonlight, which we've used with several children, has recently made their forums private and fee-based. If you buy their curriculum you can participate for no additional charge, if you just want to talk about the curriculum, you may pay a fee and still participate. In short, the spoilers who just want to cause trouble, but aren't actually buying the products are causing too much trouble, and have now been locked out.

They have, apparantly, also had problems with false identities, as a recent email announcing the "closing" of the boards states that they are using credit card validation to ensure the identity of forum members.

So, complete anonymity is not falling from webmaster favor just here at MOMYS. We all like things for free, and for things to be open for all to participate. However, the cost is very high. How many hours do you want to spend praying for and worrying about a mother whose child is dying of cancer only to find out that she is a college student with problems who has led a fake life for over a year at your expense (this happened to me and my wife, but not here at MOMYS). Now, that is someone who is just sick, however at the turn of the new year, I got to engage with a group of women who were attempting to infiltrate MOMYS.com with false emails and made up stories. We quietly turned off their accounts, and engaged with them to try to help them see who we were, as we felt Christ would have us do.

We hope they understand us better, but as you'll read below in the membership guidelines, MOMYS.com is not being provided for their purposes.

Please read through the membership and posting guidelines carefully. If you have a yahoo or hotmail account, it will look like your membership started to go through, and the system will even let you verify that email address, however, the staff will automatically delete these in the review process. A real human reads and approves you. Please also note that you must provide your first and last name in the info box. This is not part of your profile, but your registration attempt will be deleted if it's not in there.

If you are a mother of many young siblings, we hope you'll find MOMYS a special place as so many have already done.

Clarified Membership and Posting Guidelines

We feel that it would be helpful to everyone if we clearly stated our guidelines on membership and forum posting. Here they are.

Membership:
1) The purpose of MOMYS is to provide support and encouragement for women who have many small children who are close in age, to the glory of God.
2) Membership to MOMYS is restricted. We do not allow men, people pretending to be someone they are not, or those who are just curious. If you are interested in large families, may we suggest quiverfull.com.
3) Membership is not limited to any Christian doctrine and non-Christians are welcome to participate, however anti-Christian posts will be removed (see Posting Guidelines below for what that means).
4) Members will be required to provide a real e-mail address (that is, not a hotmail, yahoo mail, or the like) as well as their full name. Note that you MUST click on the link in your verification email. If you didn't get that mail, check your spam filter.
5) Members may be required to provide proof of identity.
6) Membership is free.
7) MOMYS does not have a "confession of faith" other than the scripture in the Bible.
8) We recommend that you not use your real name as part of your username.

Forum Posts
1) We expect that all posts will be given in the spirit of kindness.
2) Posts not clearly in the spirit of kindness may be deleted by the MOMYS staff. Usually, however, a staff member will ask you to revise your post.
3) Posts may not contain links to "questionable" sites. An example is a post saying "Hey, can you imagine that they are showing ... on xyz.com." This site is about building up, and though society needs to know about internet evils, this is not the place.
4) Posts may contain "venting." Please note this in the subject line, so that those who do not wish to read "venting" don't have to.
5) Posts may not contain gossiping or long rants about how terrible your husband is.
6) Please refrain from calling someone's viewpoint "unscriptural." Just put a Calvinist and an Arminian in front of a Bible, and you'll see that this is not always easy to determine. They each have perfectly valid scripture to support their opposing views.
7)Clearly anti-Christian or clearly contra-Scriptural posts will be deleted. The decision as to what that is rests with your webmaster. Additionally, if you are, say, a Muslim or an agnostic, please do not attempt to inject your doctrine into the discussion. The majority of the members on MOMYS are happily Christian and this website is not a venue for alternative doctrinal debates.
8) The MOMYS staff have a large combined experience. There are several religious doctrines represented, and they have a wide range of life experiences. Each does have lots of little children. Please take any editorial advice they give as that of someone trying to help you.

These are guidelines, and the decision of the webmaster is the final one. Send a site feedback if you wish to take exception...

Visitors to MOMYS

Another website has been snipping things you ladies have written and has been using them to poke fun at the MOMYS.
We've identified several of the ladies who have been posting on the forums here.

At this time, we've decided not to block their usernames, etc, but will give them a fair chance to identify themselves and be friends. If they choose not to do that, then we'll just delete their accounts.

Below is a copy of the post that Tina, the digest moderator, posted to their board. I agree with her 100%.

I admit to being irritated with the time that I've spent going over logs, writing down IP addresses, etc. to track these ladies down, but if they hadn't found MOMYS, they would have been deprived of our viewpoint.

Greetings to all of you! I heard you have questions about being a mother to many kiddos... maybe it would be easier for you to ask me here. That way, too, you don't have to make up silly lies about yourselves to "infiltrate." ... kind of like my boys playing cops & robbers or spies or something.

Somebody asked about the spelling of MOMYS - it is an acronym for Mothers of Many Young Siblings. The group was started as an outgrowth of the Quiverful forum, which you've also found - people who decided to let God control their childbearing and now have many children and want to do a good job with what they are doing. Kind of like if you were 18 or 21 and starting college - you've chosen this path, now you'll want to find some other people in the same place and see what it is like for them. You might ask about different classes or professors, who grades tough, where to buy books at a good price. It's the same for us.

I think you could read all of the archives, though, and not find a cruel words against those who have chosen other paths. Sadness maybe, but not meanness. You might .. no, you certainly will... find some hurt feelings because of the cruel way women have been treated by others, by friends, by acquaintances, or the most hurtful, by relatives.

I hope that when I moderate what we would discuss might be ideas and the reasons behind philosophies and actions so that we would understand one another better. We've got all flavors of Christians on MOMYS - from Catholics to Mormons to Methodists to .... well, there are a lot of beliefs. We say, "In our home we ..... because ....."

Why are you spending your time and energy building up this wall of meanness against families? How about if we work at a friendship and try to find some points of agreement, or at least understand the thought process behind those areas in which we agree to disagree?

I'm a mom, too, trying to spend some of my day encouraging and helping other women who are trying their best to be good moms and wives. Please don't add to our family's load by wasting time lying at momys. If you want to be friends, then let's be friends. I'll fix Starbucks, you bring the chocolate If you need an enemy, how about something like the Haitian government that would rather see children starve in the streets than allow them to be adopted into American families? There are so many needs in the world that you could be addressing and doing something valuable with your time - mocking women who are trying to be good moms and wives isn't the best use of your skills, resources, time and energy!

Photo Album Drama

Thanks to all of you who tried to clean up your albums.

I had the world's most busy weekend (and wound up being stuck in traffic in the mountains for hours on I-81 in the fog in a 15-passenger van with what sounded like two-dozen children) and when I got back to the ranch, I just couldn't deal with the website too.

So, I wound up increasing our web allotment for momys.com, and the drama regarding the size of the website (about 1.5GB) is temporarily over.

As time allows, I'll tackle the problems noted in the gallery forum (thanks to those of you who posted there), so we can clean up the gallery a bit.

MOMYS is an important ministry for Mary and Me, and we want to keep it going with as few limitations as possible.

So, let's forget all this till next year (I'll bug you to become a MOMYSPlus member in January :) ), and prepare for the celebration of the Birth of Christ. Click on "Read More" to read a sermon from a 3rd Century Christian Bishop about Christmas (Nativity)
